Studio A build walls now visible

Tod Maffin has some photos up of the construction of his home studio. For some reason, it reminds me of Les Nessman’s tape walls on the floor on WKRP.

The latest version of WordPress, nicknamed Strayhorn, has been officially released and is available for download. I have already done so, and I hope to have the blog upgraded later tonight.

Wish me luck!

Between 12:18 and 12:25 this morning, I was hit 217 times by comment spammers. Thanks to the Spaminator, none of them got through. If anyone is considering switching to WordPress, the Spaminator plug-in is reason enough!

I realize I am tempting fate by announcing this. But I feel triumphant, although it may only be temporary.

Thanks to my ungracious ex-webhosting company, Rick Schwier’s blog, Rick’s Cafe Canadien has been down for about a week, and all the data on the site was lost! I am grateful that an earlier backup from a couple of month’s ago was available, so the loss was not complete. The Google cache was also a big help in finding a couple of lost entries.

But I have learned my lesson - backup up your data!. If you care to, you can read my account of the web hosting company that screwed me over!

I just finished an abortive attempt at recording a conversation with Rick Schwier for the next podcast. After a couple of abortive attempts, we deferred the conversation until Saturday when we can sit down face to face.

That also means I’m back to square one for recording skype calls for podcasts. If all else fails, I can take recordings at both ends of the conversation, then patch them together in an audio editor. Any ideas?

Well, I guess its time to max out my credit cards again. Here’s why.

Yep - no doubt about. After a brief flirtation with Windows, I’m going back to a Mac for my next computer.

Should I be proud of this?

I am nerdier than 87% of all people. Are you nerdier? Click here to find out!

D’Arcy Norman is now Trying out Wordpress 1.5. I have been looking at the alpha version of WP for a while, and pondering the utility of doing the upgrade. The built in enclosures would be great for the podcasts (another one is in the works, by the way). I think I’ll give D’Arcy a week and see if he has any complaints. If its all good, I think I’ll be moving full steam ahead on the upgrade.

Wow - I just checked the logs for the site, and I am amazed at the way that podcast #3 is skewing the stats for the site. Since early Sunday morhing when I uploaded the podcast, it has been downloaded 69 times. Consequently, Sunday was my biggest single day of bandwidth usage since the site began. I don’t know about anyone else, but usually when looking at hosting for a site the bandwidth available is so ridiculously above my needs that I don’t have to worry about it. This month, however, with 2 podcasts produced, I am starting to see the limits of my bandwidth. I’m not sure what happens when I reach the limit, but it will be fun to try and find out!! ;^)

If you are considering starting a podcast, storage of podcast archives and bandwidth are going to be critical considerations. If you are podcasting, I’d be interested in hearing what are you doing with regards to bandwidth and storage capacities? Do you provide your own hosting, or are you hosted on an institutional server? (And if you are, can you get me an account for archiving my podcasts? ;^) )

After reading the revealing playlists shown by Alec “New Edition” Couros and D’Arcy Norman, I thought I’d join in the fun. Here’s what turned up when I spun the wheel!

  • Original Sin by INXS
  • Foxy Lady by Harry Manx - ubercool cover of Jimi’s hit
  • The Sweater Song by Weezer
  • Suite 4 (Sarabande) from J.S. Bach’s Cello Suites, performed by YoYo Ma
  • Senses Working Overtime by XTC
  • Marie by Blondie
  • Tango Shoes by Bif Naked
  • All Hell for a Basement by Big Sugar
  • Thumbelina by The Pretenders
  • Know How to Love You by Colin James

And just because I’m proud of it, Long Way to the Top by AC/DC is number 11. Hmm - can you tell I grew up in the 80’s?
