Feel the beat

Raj Boora attended my presentation on Weblog Communities at AMTEC, and this prompted him to start blogging again - check out his new blog EDITing in the Dark

Any other bloggers out there who attended the AMTEC conference in Calgary? Leave a comment, and I’ll put together a list of AMTEC bloggers.

Hello. I am presenting a session on weblog communities from AMTEC2005. Rick Schwier is also taking notes, and he’s not here to stop me from linking to his blog.

I promise I’m not going to start doing movie reviews. There are tons of bloggers who do movie review far more eloquently than I could, so I’m not going to do it.

But, I just have to say that RotS was great! I could be critical about the flaws in the movie - they were definitely there. I don’t think, though, that anyone was there to listen to great dialog and believable characterization. I was there to remeber what it was like to be 10 years old again, just like I was when I watched the first one in 1977. At that level, it does not dissapoint. I think the 10 year olds among and within us recognize that the movie is not about actual characters - its about myth. Its about good, evil, and the fine line between them. Maybe its about realizing that we all walk that fine line, but in the end (in Return of the Jedi), we can all find the good in ourselves no matter how far down we have descended.

Cool stuff, but maybe the best part tonight was going back to being that 10 year old again, sitting in a dark room being swept up in the epic. Wow - I think I’ll go throw the original on the VCR before I go to bed tonight.

What do these things have in common:

  • herding cats
  • pushing rope
  • pushing the rock back up the hill

If you answered that they are all analogies for implementing organizational change, you’re right. You should also read this article - James and Robert say so too!

About time! Now, let’s talk about podcasting …

Today is tidying up my web resources day. A major part of this is installing a new theme for the site called Neuron. So far my favourite feature is the ability to hide some of the content in the sidebar. This is configurable, and right now I’m working on trying to understand how this works. I also like the categories for each entry being printed in strong type at the beginning of each entry - for those who are reading the blog, this should make it easier to scan for content that you are interested in.

One single bad feature - the datestamp at the beginning of each entry. You’ll now be able to see that I am usually blogging late into the night when I should be sleeping. :^)

UPDATE - I’m going to be rationalizing my categories, so my apologies if this overflows your RSS aggregator. Just ignore anything that comes up today - I won’t be adding any new posts before tomorrow morning.

BBC NEWS | Health | How tunes get stuck in your head

Interesting read. What I want to know is why the songs that get stuck in my head are always songs that I don’t like. I had Tainted Love by Soft Cell stuck in my head for a significant part of my Grade 10 year. Lately, its been Bananaphone by Raffi which isn’t nearly so bad.

Okay - it only took a few minutes, and there are a couple of tweaks I still want to fix up. Other than that, it looks like its working. That was pretty darn easy!

I might try running through a fresh install in a directory just to see how that works. One of the things I really like about WordPress is the painfully easy installation. A little bit of geekiness is required for the install, but it is done quickly.

The next item on my to-do list for the blog is getting the categories under control. But that will have to wait, since I have a class to teach in 20 minutes!
