I’m preparing to migrate the EdTech Posse website from Drupal to WordPress. I’m too lazy to hack SQL, so I’m going to do this the quick and dirty way. I’ve downloaded a copy of our current RSS feed, and I’ll import that into a shiny, fresh installation of WordPress. This should be fairly easy.
Or the whole thing could blow up in my face. Oh well, there’s nothing like a fresh start! ;^)
In either case, I’m hoping to make the migration tomorrow today (Aug. 31). Cross your fingers.

Hi Rob
I wondered what your reasoning was for changing from Drupal? have you found limitations or additional benefits from WordPress?

Good question, Joe. I really like Drupal and I think its a very versatile tool for creating different kinds of websites. When I started the posse website, I was thinking of having a community website where we (posse and listeners) would be having some discussions and other kinds of communication. I have now learned that if you build it, they won’t necessarily come. We were left a site that was basically a blog site to create the feed for the podcast and give a place for listeners to leave comments. I am more familiar with wordpress, so I decided to go with that as a blogging tool. I know more about things like spam management in WP that in Drupal. I also believe in using the simplest tool possible for a job – Drupal seemed like a lot more than I needed to get the job done.
Thanks for leaving that question – its forced me to think about why I changed it over. I think it was a good decision and the site will suit our purposes very well.
Rob,
I need to build a new website for our school district. I am looking at Drupal and Joomla. Do you have any recommendations of one over the other?
Thanks,
Brian
Brian, I don’t really know too much about Joomla. One of the schools in our school division uses it and is quite enthusiastic about the results – http://www.mckitrick.lskysd.ca/ At my school we use Drupal. The site is good and we are working to add to the visual appeal of it – http://www.nbchs.lskysd.ca
My recommendation is to use the one that is easier for you to work with. They have different approaches to content management so one might make more sense to you than the other. That might not be much hellp, but it’s the most honest advice I can give.
