Nah, Heather, stay up there. I think that the sheer brilliance of Tommy Douglas sharing this vision with the people of Saskatchewan is one of the most important moments in world history. I don't think that Bill Clinton would have been talking about universal health care without Tommy's lead.

Can there be a more radical, revolutionary and transformational idea than the notion that we should show compassion to all other human beings?

OK - I'll step off the soap box now. History has shown that people who spend a lot of time espousing such philosophies often end up with shortened life spans. ;^D

Rob,

I remember getting chills while watching Bill Clinton give his acceptance speech for the Democratic nomination for president in 1992. I haven't stopped believing in universal health care since that night (I hadn't yet experienced the wonderful reality of it when I moved to Canada). My family, unfortunately, has seen first hand what happens when health care is more about profit than about actual health.

Of course, I'm also a believer that both countries need to do a lot more to establish actual HEALTH care (prevention) systems instead of SICK care (reaction). We need a lot more emphasis on prevention and keeping people healthy.

Okay, I'll step off of my soap box now.
